Most everyone knows how it sounds, yet few speak of how it feels. For many homosexual men, sounding gay is a source of anxiety and a cause for ridicule (or worse). Freelance journalist David Thorpe decided to “fix” his voice. And he put the whole ordeal on film.
In his film debut, Thorpe visits a speech therapist and chats with a number of prominent gay men about their experiences having the “gay voice.” Commentators include David Sedaris, Dan Savage, George Takei and Don Lemon. The film Do I Sound Gay is distributed in North America by Sundance Selects.
